What was my biggest takeaway from this course on Global Collaboration and Community?
My biggest takeaway from this course is that I am behind the times with my use of technology in the classroom and in my professional life in general. This is especially alarming due to the fact that my school is one to one with Chromebooks. I also realized how small my PLN currently is and the potential for expanding it.
What changes will I make in my teaching and professional development practice?
I will make a more deliberate effort to integrate technology into my lesson planning and to use social media as a means to connect with other educators and tech gurus. I will increase the variety of professional development opportunities I tap into by expanding it beyond the subjects I teach; I clearly need more in the field of technology applications.
What impact will this have on my students?
My students will be more engaged in lessons that allow them to tap into resources they are already comfortable with and use regularly, such as Twitter and Instagram. They will become more globally connected citizens by collaborating with students in other parts of the world.
How have I become a more courageous leader so far? What steps will I continue to take to become a more courageous leader?
I have already stepped far out of my social media comfort zone by creating Twitter and Google+ accounts. I look forward to using these means to connect with peers on personal and professional levels.
I signed up for this course with the intention of becoming a more technologically connected educator and I fully intend on taking advantage of the opportunity to work together with my coworkers that are already ahead of me for support and reaching out to new members of my networking community.
